Bath Fan Repairs/Installations

Need Bathroom Fan Repairs?

Bath fans help to eliminate odors and prevent moisture problems by drawing fresh air into your bathroom and pumping damp air out. But unfortunately, most fans only work properly for 10 years or so. Poorly functioning fans can lead to mold and mildew problems, and they also present a fire hazard, as their motors are notorious for overheating. Don’t worry – fixing or replacing them is a pretty simple job for our licensed electricians.

Motor Replacement: An Easy Repair Option

As long as the fan blades and housing are in good shape, it's often possible to repair inoperable or noisy bathroom fans by simply replacing the motor. Motor replacement costs less than replacing the entire unit, making it the preferred approach for many budget-minded homeowners. However, it isn’t always possible to find replacement motors, particularly for the bathroom fans in older homes.

A New Option for Homeowners: Smart Bath Fans

Historically, bathroom fans were pretty simple devices, controlled by a standard light switch. But modern models provide a number of advanced features, including smart system integration, voice activation, and humidity sensors. This not only makes it more convenient to operate the fan, but it also means you can set it up to automatically turn on and off based on your family’s specific needs.

Bath Fan Consideration #1: Size & CFM

Selecting the ideal fan for your bathroom involves two considerations: the size of the unit and the amount of air it can move (expressed as cubic feet per minute or CFM). The size simply needs to match the duct size, but picking the best CFM rating will require you to consider several things, including the size of your bathroom, the ceiling height, and the unit's location inside the bathroom.

Bath Fan Consideration #2: Noise Level Options

The bath fans in many older homes often produce a lot of noise when in use. But modern bathroom fans are typically more efficient and include a variety of sound-dampening features that allow them to move air effectively without causing a ton of unnecessary noise. The volume of a bath fan is expressed in sones, with quiet fans being rated at 0.5 to 1.5 sones.
